Beautiful….
Kc, written with beauty and passion, as usual. I really hear you on this because you speak for so many of us. Thanks for leading your readers into thinking about when our own distaste for ourselves, or shame about our goodness, first originated. As a healer and I discussed today, one can say, “I refuse to let the rest of my life be damaged by what I came to assume at that painful moment.”
My friend and I refer to discomfort as the ‘disco fort’ and discontent as the ‘disco tent’ which always makes us giggle and realize that as serious as it feels sometimes… it doesn’t have to be that serious 😉
This is such an amazing post KC and one that I think a lot of women can relate to. I relate to it in that I (and everyone else I knew growing up) was raised to be overly modest and humble. Although we also received the message to love yourself, you never dare speak it out loud for fear of offending someone, making someone else feel bad or coming off as conceited. It took me a long time to get past this, including meeting enough people who were proud to love themselves out loud! This is the message I send to my young daughters. One distinction I do make with them though which seems easier for them to identify with since kids/girls are so especially sensitive to social judgement is to freely praise their efforts (like I’m a great bike rider) as opposed to sweeping statements like “I’m awesome!”
I love this and you, KC. Thank you for the gift that you are, sister. xxo
This is probably the deepest, most important and wonderful writing that I have ever read from you. Thank you and keep on flying!!
Right now this is exactly what I needed to read and receive. Thank you for sharing.
