5 Things I’ve Learned About Running a Business and Being a Mother

December 1, 2016The Tantric Path of… Public Speaking?
June 23, 2016
-
20 minutes after I gave birth, as I lay with a precious baby in my arms, I had a powerful realization.
I had the thought that if I had died in childbirth, (which, thankfully, was never an imminent risk during my birthing process, but wow the portals of life and death are so intricately intertwined), the entire unique body of work I have created over the last few years for women and their public speaking would have died with me because everything is under my name, and I have failed to pass on my teachings.
My soul’s desire is to make a serious dent in the universe when it comes to supporting women around the world in finding the freedom within to share their voices and wisdom.
But I knew in that moment that in order to effectively do that, I need to move my business away from being a personal brand – with everything under my name, and offered only by me – and instead create something that would live beyond me.
Since that moment, I have been in the living inquiry of: What is that creation? What is the structure? And how do I do it?
Finally, this last year, it hit me, and I’m excited to share the genesis of this vision with you.
(Stay with me here – it gets good.)
I’ve polled women on social media, on my list and in conversations about whether they want an ongoing place and community to practice standing up and speaking their truth with other women, and the response has been a resounding YES. This is an answer to that call.
I’ll circle back on the form this is going to take in just a moment, but first I want to talk about why creating something like this matters so much, especially at this time in our history.
So here’s the deal:
Most public speaking training programs that exist out there foster an approach to speaking and leading that is rooted in a masculine model of what leadership and professionalism looks and feels like.
This can have a detrimental effect on the self-esteem of women who desire to speak up and lead.
Girls and women who are very much connected to their feminine natures look around at masculine leaders in the public and private spheres (and that can include women who operate in a masculine way as well as men) and subconsciously think to themselves – “I can’t be that because I don’t look or feel like that.” Or, “I have to hide or suppress parts of myself in order to speak up and be taken seriously.”
What’s happening here is that a subtle and deeply subconscious feeling of inferiority begins to set in.
That feeling sparks self doubt, a lack of valuing the wisdom within, and a resistance to speaking up . It erodes a woman’s sense of inner freedom to lead and share her mind publicly.
And the cost to our world?
The cost is tremendous.
We end up losing the brilliant and very needed ideas and wisdom that women have to contribute.
At a time when humanity is deeply struggling to figure out how to live in harmony and well-being with this planet and one another, we simply cannot afford to lose access to the insights of the feminine perspective any longer.
It’s time for a trusted alternative to the masculine model of leadership and professionalism training. We need a place where where women can come and learn how to fully, effectively stand up and be themselves as they share their ideas & their wisdom – whether that be at dinner parties, work meetings or on global stages.
We need a community where women are supported in recognizing the inherent value of what they have to say and share, and where they can feel at home in themselves as they share their voices. Having this kind of safe “nest” emboldens women to then go out and take risks as they contribute and speak up in the ways they feel called.
Imagine a community where women are a joyous stand for one another being the most fully expressed, radiant, powerful women possible… one where the relationships are rooted in celebration instead of competition.
That’s the kind of community we need as women in order to flourish in giving our deepest gifts.
That’s the kind of community I’m committed to creating for all you women out there with something important to say.
And so, starting this spring, I am launching WomanSpeak.
The WomanSpeak journey begins with The Foundation – a seriously fun, highly effective, in-person course for women to learn the art & soul of public speaking. We will offer it in both a 6 week (one class per week) format, and a weekend intensive format.
I’ll be delivering the best of the best of my unorthodox teachings, which have now supported thousands of women from all over the world in finding greater freedom and clarity to publicly share their ideas and wisdom.
The class will involve lots of celebration, fun and authentic connection with other inspiring women.
Because consistent practice is the key to becoming a powerful and effective public speaker who is at ease being in front of others and speaking her truth, after the initial 6 week or weekend intensive in-person class, women can then enroll to become part of WomanSpeak Weekly.
WomanSpeak Weekly consists of local & online, ongoing weekly public speaking gatherings. The members of the WomanSpeak Weekly community can come, whenever they wish, to practice and deepen their own artistry of standing up and speaking their truth, telling stories, giving mini talks, etc.
Imagine a transformational Toastmasters for women that has a rockin’ fun & supportive community and a lot of emphasis on speaking authentically, effectively, and from the heart.
That’s what we’re aiming for here.
The intention is to have this program taught in communities around the world, and I will be hosting my first teacher training for WomanSpeak later this year.
But here’s the best part of WomanSpeak:
When a woman invests in The Foundation course to empower her own voice, a portion of her tuition funds a highschool girl to attend – for free – GirlSpeak: an equivalent program that I am creating for the next generation of female leaders.
So, a woman who invests in the liberation of her own voice is also investing in the liberation of the voice of a young girl.
I cannot tell you how excited I am about this.
I want you to be a part of this with me.
I’m looking for a group of women to go through the first WomanSpeak Foundation courses in the San Francisco Bay Area. Space is extremely limited, so enrollment is by application only for this first series of classes.
There are two options to choose from this spring in the San Francisco Bay Area:
The WomanSpeak Foundation 6 Week Course
(Meeting one evening per week in San Francisco. Perfect for women who live in the Bay Area.)
Or
The WomanSpeak Foundation Weekend Intensive
(A Saturday & Sunday in San Francisco. Perfect for women who live outside of the Bay Area, or who cannot attend a weeknight class).
(Both of these courses will cover the same material. The only difference will be the time in which they are held.)
Click here for more information on dates, details, and to apply.
If you are ready to turn any fear, self-doubt, or other funkiness surrounding your public speaking & sharing your voice into freedom, fun, clarity and confidence, then please apply.
Whether you’ve got a big message to share and you want the skills to do it brilliantly, or if you are simply looking to feel more confidence and clarity in speaking up at team meetings or giving wedding toasts, this program is designed for you.
I would love to have you come be a part of this incredible journey with us and to support you in bringing your voice, your truth and your wisdom to this world.
Thank you so much for being the audience and inspiration that is spurring me to bring these teachings to more women and girls.
May all women’s voices be free.
With love, KC
